Agnes Martin Birthday Celebration and Release of her Book Religion of Love
Please join us the evening of Thursday, March 22, for an Agnes Martin Birthday celebration at the Trading Post Cafe as a benefit for DreamTree Project. Doors open at 6pm. This event is a release for her book, Religion of Love , illustrated by Richard Tuttle. As a way to stay creative, Agnes wrote Religion of Love in the last few years of her life, to be of benefit to DreamTree.
The Fresh Food Extravaganza at the event, which includes beer and wine, offers a menu selected especially by Trading Post Cafe owner, Kimberly Armstrong. Dinner for two costs $250 and includes one copy of the book.
Dinner for one costs $150 with a book and $100 without a book. Seating and books for this event are very limited!
In the later years of her life, Agnes found that road construction prevented her access to her painting studio for a prolonged period. DreamTree Project co-founders Kim Treiber and Cami Hartman facilitated the process of Agnes writing Religion of Love by getting her a tape recorder, showing her how to use it, and helping to transcribe recordings. “Agnes Martin was a dear friend,” said Treiber. Both appreciated in Agnes “her childlike nature that made me always feel like the world was exactly as it needed to be,” shared Hartman.
Agnes ate lunch at the Trading Post Cafe almost every day, and she was very close with Kimberly Armstrong, who also shared: “Once a month, she would pick the place, and we’d take a road trip in my Pathfinder. It was the conversation, eating, and places around New Mexico that Agnes loved.”
Catherine Hummel, Executive Director of DreamTree Project, said of the event, “We are thrilled to host this event in Agnes Martin’s honor. We love that DreamTree Project now carries on the work that meant so much to her.”
Come join us for a night out, to celebrate Agnes and benefit DreamTree!
