         DreamTree's Wish List

With the completion of DreamTree's Main House and the Casitas, DreamTree is moving forward with other projects on our wish list.   Landscaping our campus to make it a more calming and welcoming environment for the youth that DreamTree serves is one of our current ventures.

Ed Fenzl of Living Light Landscapes, a retired theraputic landscape designer in Taos recently approached DreamTree with an offer to complete a landscape design plan as an in-kind donation.  He recognized the possiblity that our campus could be improved upon due to its areas with no shade, little vegetation and lack of cohesion.  Mr. Fenzl has since completed the design plan and is ready to begin implementation.

The master landscape plan is broken into five areas including: Frontage Entry, Front Left "Growing Garden", Courtyard behind Main Building, Courtyard in front of New Residences, and Sideyard/Perimeter Landscaping.

A completed landscape project will provide a beautiful space and will align the outdoor environment of DreamTree Project with our organizational values of sustainability and low impact.  In partnership with the Taos Native Plants Society, the landscape will use native and regionally appropriate plants.  Also, Bob Patterson from Mountain Rich Soils will supply regionally appropriate soil products.  The landscape will be low maintenance, require low water use and be energy efficient.  This plan is also aligned with the recent construction of the casitas, which are in the process of application to the U.S. Green Building Council to be given the title, "Leader in Energy Efficient Design" (LEED).  The DreamTree Project would be the first treatment center in New Mexico to receive this type of certification.  The landscape would complete this overall environmentally responsible model.

This landscape project will also be a powerful educational tool for the residents of DreamTree. Ed Fenzl will provide education for the youth regarding how and when to plant and maintain the landscape.
